SALUTE TO 2006 OSCAR NOMINEES

 

• TSOTSI - South Africa's second Oscar nominated film for Best Foreign Language category.  Tsotsi won several prestigious awards, the 'People's Choice Award' at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 17, 2005, the Standard Life Audience Award and the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2005.  The movie is a British-South African drama based on the novel by South African writer Athol Fugard, and directed by Gavin Hood.  The film is being distributed in the USA by Miramax Film Corp. 

• CHARLIZE THERON - Received nomination for Best Actress for her performance in "North Country".  Miss Theron is the first South African to win an Oscar Award.  She won the 2004 Oscar for Best Actress as well as Golden Globe Award for her performance in "Monster".
